The grave of Alice Liddell, Mrs Reginald Hargreaves 1852-1934 in #Lyndhurst, #NewForest. She was the child on whom author Lewis Carroll based his book “Alice in Wonderland.” The daughter of Henry Lydell and Lorina Hanna, she met Lewis Carroll in a rowboat travelling in 1862 on the River Thames and became his friend and the inspiration for his famous book. The original manuscript of “Alice’s Adventures Under Ground” (original title) was auctioned for Sotheby’s and today resides in the British Library. She was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium and was buried under the name of Mrs. Reginald Hargreaves in Hampshire. A plaque on the ground reads: “The grave of Mrs. Reginald Hargreaves, the ‘Alice’ in Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland.” #aliceinwonderland #lewiscarroll #literaryfigure #grave
