Statue of Thomas Hardy, everyone’s favourite author of stories about 19th century rural life in fictional Wessex, eg ‘The Mayor of Casterbridge’ or ‘Jude the Obscure’. This world famous son of Dorchester is affectionately remembered in this statued erected in the town after his death in 1925. His heart is buried at Stinsford churchyard outside Dorchester, his body is interred in Westminster Abbey in London.
