October 22, 2015 at 07:14PM “England and America are two countries separated by a common language”, wrote George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950). It’s a sentiment as true today as in his lifetime, indeed probably more so. I like this treatment by the Valve Corporation in their games software’s user settings. ‘English (Traditional)’ is much better than ‘British English’, though I doubt many Americans will find favour with ‘English (Simplified)’ despite it being a very accurate description of how that nation has changed things.
October 22, 2015 at 06:13PM Have you given your birch trees their Autumn wash and brush up yet? They’ll really light up your garden on dismal winter days with an arresting visual flash of brightness, especially if they there is a dark or evergreen backdrop acting as a foil. The job is easily done with a bucket of warm, mildly soapy water and a stiff bristle dustpan brush. This task is best done in the Autumn rather than Spring. In my photo the image at left is the ‘before’ shot with green algae much in evidence. The others are the ‘after’ pictures. See how they zing! #trees #birch #himalayanbirch #gardeningtips #NewForest
